Privacy Policy
Last updated 5 October 2026 · Covers the saintstamp.sh website and the Saint Stamp app
The short version
- We collect only what Saint Stamp needs to work: your email address to sign you in, the walks you stamp, and your location at the moment you scan a post box plaque, to confirm you were really there.
- We don't sell your information, show adverts, or use advertising or tracking cookies.
- In guest mode your stamps stay on your phone and nothing about you is sent to us.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time by emailing solutions@nextechsthelena.com.
1. Who we are
Saint Stamp is run by NexTech St. Helena Ltd (“we”, “us”), based on St Helena. This policy covers our website at saintstamp.sh and the Saint Stamp app at app.saintstamp.sh. We decide how and why your information is used, so we are responsible for it.
Walk descriptions and photographs come from St Helena Tourism. St Helena Tourism does not receive the personal information described in this policy.
2. What we collect
When you visit saintstamp.sh
- The contact form. If you send us an enquiry we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. We use these only to reply to you.
- Visiting the site. As with any website, your browser's request — including your IP address and the type of device and browser — reaches the company that hosts our site so it can deliver the page. We do not run analytics on the website.
When you use the app as a guest
Guest mode keeps your stamps on your device only. Nothing about you is sent to us. Because the stamps exist only on that device, clearing your browser data or removing the app deletes them permanently, and we cannot recover them.
When you create an account
- Your email address, so we can sign you in. We email you a one-time code; there is no password to remember.
- A leaderboard name. You start with an anonymous name such as “Walker 4F2A”, which you can change. You can also hide yourself from the leaderboards entirely.
When you collect stamps
- Which walk you stamped, and when.
- Your location at the moment you scan. The QR scanner only opens when your phone reports that you are within about 50 metres of the post box. When you scan a plaque, we store the location reading your phone gave us — latitude, longitude, and how accurate it was — with that stamp. We use it to confirm stamps were earned at the post box and to investigate misuse.
We do not track you while you walk. The trail map uses your location to show where you are, but that live position stays on your phone. We receive a single location reading only at the moment you scan a plaque.
- Your camera is used only to read the QR code on the plaque. The images are processed on your phone and are never uploaded or saved.
When you use a pass
- Your pass — its type, and when it starts and ends — and the voucher code you redeemed.
- Unsuccessful voucher attempts — the code entered and when — so we can stop people guessing codes.
- We do not receive any card or bank details. Vouchers are bought in person from our stockists, who handle the payment. If you arrange a group or school pass with us by email, we keep that correspondence to administer the pass.
How often you use the app
For signed-in accounts only, we record the dates you open the app — never the time — and whether you opened it from your home screen or in a browser. This tells us how many people use Saint Stamp and how many have installed it. We do not record this for guests.
Information stored on your device
The app keeps some information on your phone so it can work without signal and keep you signed in. Our Cookies Policy lists exactly what, and why.
3. How we use it
| What we do | Using | Why we can |
|---|---|---|
| Sign you in and run your account | Email address | To provide the service you asked for |
| Record your stamps and certificates | Stamps | To provide the service you asked for |
| Confirm stamps were earned at the post box, and prevent fraud | Location at scan, voucher attempts | Our legitimate interest in keeping stamps and certificates meaningful for everyone |
| Show leaderboards | Leaderboard name, stamp counts | To provide the service — and you can opt out |
| Activate your pass | Pass and voucher details | To provide the service you paid for |
| Count how many people use the app | Dates of use | Our legitimate interest in understanding how Saint Stamp is used |
| Reply to your enquiry | Contact form details | To respond to your request |
We never use your information for advertising, and we never sell it.
4. Leaderboards
If you appear on a leaderboard, other walkers can see your leaderboard name and your stamp counts. They never see your email address or any location.
- You can choose your name, or hide yourself from leaderboards at any time in the app.
- If you take part with a school or group, the group's name and combined total appear on the Groups board.
- The Islanders vs Visitors board shows combined totals only — never individuals. We count you as an islander if you hold an Islander Annual pass.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. We use a small number of companies to run Saint Stamp, and they handle information only to provide their service to us:
| Company | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores accounts, stamps and passes, and runs sign-in |
| Netlify | Hosts the website and app, and receives contact form messages |
| Resend | Delivers your sign-in code emails |
Some parts of the pages are loaded directly from other services. When that happens your device contacts them, so they receive your IP address and basic browser details:
- OpenStreetMap and OpenTopoMap — the trail map's background tiles.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces used on the website and in the app.
- St Helena Tourism — walk photographs, loaded from sthelenatourism.com.
We may also share information if the law requires us to.
6. Where it is stored
Our service providers store information on servers outside St Helena. We choose established providers that protect the information they hold for us.
7. How long we keep it
- Your account, stamps (including their location readings), passes and dates of use — for as long as you have an account, and deleted when your account is deleted.
- Voucher records — we keep a record that each voucher was sold and redeemed, for our accounts. When your account is deleted we remove the link between that record and you.
- Unsuccessful voucher attempts — deleted with your account.
- Contact form messages — kept while we deal with your enquiry, and reviewed for deletion at least every 12 months.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- see the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and everything linked to it;
- stop using your information for a purpose you object to, such as appearing on leaderboards.
To do any of these, email solutions@nextechsthelena.com from the address on your account. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You may also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
9. Children and schools
Saint Stamp is for walkers of all ages, and schools take part through group passes. Children under 13 should use Saint Stamp with the permission of a parent, guardian or teacher, and school participation is arranged through the teacher or group leader. If you believe a child has given us information without permission, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Keeping it safe
- Information is encrypted while it travels between your device and our services.
- Our database lets each walker read only their own information.
- Stamps are checked on our server, so they cannot be added by tampering with the app.
No system is completely secure. If you think you have found a problem, please tell us.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we will tell you in the app.
